Wood Care

Wood Care

1. DAILY CARE & CLEANING

• Use a soft, dry or slightly damp microfiber cloth for daily cleaning.
• Warm water is sufficient for routine wipe-downs.
• Avoid soaking or leaving standing water on the surface.
• Only use mild, fragrance-free dish soap when necessary.

Do not use:
Bleach, ammonia, furniture polish sprays, silicone products, wax-based products, abrasive cleaners, or harsh chemicals.

2. SPILLS & STAIN PREVENTION

• Wipe any spills immediately to avoid staining or grain-raising.
• Use coasters, placemats, and trivets to protect from heat, cold, and oils.
• Avoid leaving décor items in one spot long-term to prevent uneven coloration.

3. HUMIDITY & TEMPERATURE GUIDELINES

Wood expands and contracts with environmental changes. Keep your table in stable indoor conditions:

• Ideal humidity: 40–55%
• Ideal temperature: 65–75°F (18–24°C)

Avoid placing your table near heat vents, radiators, fireplaces, direct intense sunlight, or outdoors.

4. LONG-TERM MAINTENANCE

Some finishes may benefit from occasional re-oiling:

• Recommended oils: Rubio Monocoat, Osmo, or natural hardwax oils.
• If your piece has a lacquer or polyurethane finish, do NOT oil it.
• Light scratches may be buffed or spot-oiled; deep scratches require professional repair.

If unsure which finish your table has, contact us before applying anything.

5. HOW LIVE EDGE AGES OVER TIME

Natural wood develops character as it ages. Expect gentle, natural changes:

• Minor colour shifts
• Seasonal wood movement
• A soft patina that develops through daily use

These are normal characteristics of authentic hardwood furniture.

6. PAROTA / GUANACASTE SPECIFIC CARE

Kovara specializes in Parota/Guanacaste wood, known for its beautiful grain and natural stability.

Parota care notes:
• Avoid heavy chemical cleaners.
• Use soft cloths to prevent micro-scratches.
• Maintain consistent humidity; Parota responds more noticeably to environmental changes than denser hardwoods.

7. WARRANTY-SAFE CARE

To keep your piece protected under recommended care guidelines:

• Do not place your table outdoors or on an uncovered patio.
• Avoid sanding, refinishing, or DIY repairs unless approved.
• Do not expose to extreme humidity or heat.
• Do not use waxes, polishes, or silicone sprays.

If damage occurs, send photos and we can advise on next steps.

8. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How often should I oil my table?
Only once or twice a year if required by your finish. Ask us if unsure.

Can I place my table near a window?
Yes, but avoid prolonged direct sunlight to prevent fading.

What if the wood cracks?
Small micro-cracks can be natural. Larger splits should be inspected. Send us photos.

Will the wood change colour over time?
Yes. Natural aging and sunlight contribute to a warm, rich patina.
