FAQ
LIVE EDGE SLAB QUESTIONS
Live Edge Slabs FAQ
What is a live-edge slab?
A live-edge slab is a solid piece of wood that keeps the tree’s natural edge instead of a straight, machine-cut side. Each slab has its own shape, grain pattern, and character, which means no two pieces are ever identical. Live-edge slabs are ideal for tables, counters, benches, shelving, and custom projects where you want a one-of-a-kind look.
Are your slabs kiln-dried?
Yes, our slabs are professionally kiln-dried to a stable moisture content before they’re ready for sale or finishing. Kiln-drying helps minimize movement, cracking, and warping over time so your piece performs better in a typical home or commercial environment.
Do you plane/sand the slabs before sale?
Most slabs are surfaced and flattened so you’re not starting from a rough sawmill cut. The exact prep level is listed on each product (for example: “flattened and planed, ready for final sanding and finish”). If you want a fully sanded, finish-ready slab, we can quote that as an additional service.
Can you cut, flatten, or finish the slab for me?
Yes. If you do not have access to a full workshop, we can handle flattening, dimensioning, sanding, epoxy work, and finishing for you. Just submit a custom request with your project details and we’ll provide pricing and timelines for a fully finished piece.
What species do you carry?
Our inventory rotates, but you’ll typically find Parota and other hardwoods known for their rich color, striking grain, and stability. Each product page lists the exact species, tone, and key characteristics so you can choose the wood that fits your project and space.
Can I select the exact slab I will receive?
Yes. Each slab listing is photographed individually, and the dimensions on the product page match the exact slab you are purchasing. You’re not picking from a generic stock photo—you are choosing the actual piece that will be shipped to you.
CUSTOM TABLE BUILD QUESTIONS
Custom Table FAQ
Can you build a full table from the slab?
Yes. We offer complete custom builds that include slab selection, flattening, finishing, and base installation. You can choose from a range of leg styles and finishes, and we’ll handle the joinery, hardware, and final assembly so your table arrives ready to use.
What is the typical lead time for custom furniture?
Lead times vary with complexity and current workload, but most custom builds take approximately X–Y weeks from deposit to completion. We’ll confirm an estimated delivery window when you approve the final design and pay your deposit.
Do you offer design help?
Absolutely. If you’re not sure what size, species, or base style you need, our team can help you design the right piece for your space. Share room photos, dimensions, and inspiration, and we’ll make recommendations on slab selection, layout, edge treatment, and finish.
Do you work with contractors, designers, and builders?
Yes, we regularly work with trade partners on residential, commercial, and hospitality projects. If you’re a designer, builder, or contractor, you can submit your project details and we’ll follow up with trade pricing and project support.
SHIPPING & DELIVERY
Shipping, Delivery & Pickup FAQ
Do you ship slabs and tables across the US?
Yes, we ship slabs and finished furniture throughout the continental United States. Smaller pieces typically ship via parcel carriers, while larger slabs and tables ship via freight on custom packaging or crates.
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping cost depends on the size, weight, and destination. You’ll see live shipping estimates at checkout for standard orders. For oversized or custom pieces, we’ll provide a freight quote as part of your project proposal before you approve and pay.
Can I pick up my slab locally in Texas?
Yes. Local pickup is available from our Texas location by appointment. After you place your order, we’ll send pickup instructions and scheduling details so you or your shipper can collect your slab safely.
Do you deliver locally?
In many cases, we can arrange local delivery or in-home placement for finished tables and large pieces. Local delivery availability and pricing depend on your address and the item size; we’ll confirm options during checkout or as part of your custom quote.
How long does shipping take?
Once your slab or finished piece leaves our facility, transit time is typically X–Y business days within the continental US, depending on location and carrier. You’ll receive tracking details as soon as your order ships so you can follow it all the way to your door.
Returns, Warranty and Exchange Questions
Returns, Warranty & Policies FAQ
Do you accept returns on slabs?
Because each slab is unique and often reserved for specific projects, all slab sales are generally final. That said, if there’s an issue with your order on arrival, contact us right away and we’ll do our best to make it right.
What if my slab arrives damaged?
If your slab arrives with visible damage, please photograph the packaging and the slab from several angles as soon as you receive it. Send the photos and your order number to our support team within 48 hours so we can file a claim with the carrier and arrange a repair, replacement, or alternative solution.
Is there a warranty on finished tables?
Yes. Our finished furniture includes a workmanship warranty against defects in joinery or construction under normal residential use for a defined period. Natural movement, wear, and minor color changes in solid wood are expected and are not considered defects.
Maintaining and Caring for your Live Edge Questions
Wood Care FAQ
How do I maintain a live-edge slab?
Keep your slab clean by wiping it with a soft cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals and never leave standing water on the surface. Maintain stable indoor humidity where possible, and use trivets and coasters to protect the finish from heat and moisture.
Will the wood crack or move over time?
All real wood moves slightly with changes in temperature and humidity. Kiln-drying and proper construction help minimize this, but small checks or seasonal gaps are normal and part of the character of solid wood. Extreme swings in humidity or direct heat sources can increase movement, so we recommend a stable indoor environment.
Can I place a live-edge table outdoors?
Most of our slabs and finishes are intended for indoor use only. Outdoor exposure to sun, rain, and temperature swings will accelerate wear and can cause checking or warping. If you need an outdoor-rated solution, contact us so we can discuss appropriate materials and finishes.
Payments and Ordering Questions
Ordering, Payments & Custom Quotes FAQ
How do I place a custom order?
You can either purchase a listed slab and add a custom build service, or submit a project request with your dimensions, room photos, and style preferences. We’ll review your information, recommend slabs, and provide a detailed quote before moving forward.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes. Custom projects typically require a non-refundable deposit (for example, 30–50%) to reserve the slab and secure production time. The remaining balance is due before delivery or pickup. We’ll outline exact terms in your written quote or invoice.
What payment methods are accepted?
We accept major credit cards and Shop Pay through our online checkout. For larger custom projects, we can also arrange payment by invoice through our secure online system.
Can I reserve a slab while deciding?
In some cases we can place a short hold on a slab or allow you to reserve it with a deposit while final design details are confirmed. Slabs are one-of-a-kind, so we recommend reaching out quickly if there’s a specific piece you don’t want to lose.
Sustainability Questions
Sustainability & Source FAQ
Use this text to share information about your product or shipping policies.
Where do your slabs come from?
Our slabs are sourced from responsible partners and mills that specialize in live-edge and specialty hardwoods. Many pieces come from responsibly harvested or salvaged trees that are given a second life as furniture instead of being discarded.
Is your wood sustainably harvested?
We prioritize suppliers who follow sustainable forestry practices, local regulations, and ethical sourcing. When possible, we work with wood that is reclaimed, storm-fallen, or harvested as part of responsible land management.
Do you finish the slabs with eco-friendly products?
We use professional, durable finishes selected for both performance and indoor air quality. Where possible, we choose low-VOC oils and finishes suitable for residential spaces. If you have specific requirements or sensitivities, let us know and we can discuss finish options.
